People for Pensions is an opportunity to create a community of people who care about retirement security. And I’m very proud to be the Community Lead of the People for Pensions project.
As Community Lead, I will be sharing information with my fellow People for Pensions members – via this website, regular newsletters as well as our various social media channels. I’m here to answer any questions and help make connections across the broad network of people who are part of the OPSEU Pension Plan.
A bit about myself: I joined OPTrust, which invests, manages and administers the OPSEU Pension Plan, in early 2017. I’m very excited to be part of the People for Pensions project. Knowledge is power and People for Pensions is a way to inform people about defined benefit pension plans like ours and help spread the word through our social networks.
As a young person, pensions are important to me because I want to ensure I can retire one day without having to worry about not being able to meet my own basic needs. The wide variety of financial services available can be overwhelming and it can be difficult to choose the right product if you’re not an expert, so knowing that my money is being managed by professionals is extremely comforting.
Both my parents were fortunate enough to have a defined benefit pension plan and could retire with a secure and stable source of income. But that’s not the reality for many others, including the parents of my friends and family.
You can read more about the goals and objectives of the People for Pension project here or call/email me if you have questions and want to learn more. You don’t need to be a pension expert to be part of the community! This project will provide everyone with important facts and information about pensions – not only the OPSEU Pension Plan, but about the importance of secure income in retirement for all Canadians.
